This literally gets reblogged every 15th of the month. It’s almost two years old. It’s beautiful.
listen up ya’ll this post is 6 years old now and you’re still reblogging it. every month. once a month, my notifications blow up for this one video, but only until the 16th. then the notes on this vid completely stop. it’s so eerily spot on and impressive how you just all collectively know what to do. if I’m not online, people irl still remind me that it’s the 15th. thank you for six surreal years of me wondering if I completely fucking lost it. here’s to the 15th
It is gonna be fun in 12-36 months when tankies are gradually accepted back into the left-wing fold and their unhinged and grotesque positions inch their way into becoming the default position again because people just wanna get along and don’t wanna do “left-wing infighting”. And gradually people on the left will start to believe (perhaps even sincerely claim to remember) that actually Ukraine started it in 2022 by shelling Donetsk. And gradually, after a few pieces of footage online from the 2014 invasion are erroneously labeled as being current 2022 footage of Ukraine, this will evolve into a consensus that all the Russian war crimes currently taking place were actually wildly exaggerated by the CIA.
It’s all happened before, it will happen again. This moment, where a lot of leftists have been shaken to their senses and recognize Russian imperialism, will fade—unless you stop it. Unless you commit to being confrontational about it. Unless you excise the Stalinist cancer.
There’s not a hell of a lot that a lot of us can do to directly help the Ukrainian people right now, but one thing that many people can do is document and archive what’s happening.
Memories get hazy, videos lose hosting, sites get taken down, news stories fall off the front page and disappear.
Download all the videos that you’re worried might get lost. Archive all the tweets and news articles and aid sites you think might get lost. If you’re doomscrolling anyway, you may as well do something productive with it.
Save footage of protests (but be careful about reposting if protestor’s faces are visible), save footage of missile strikes, save evidence because it is a genuine problem that the news moves so fast and the internet changes so much that it can be nearly impossible to find good documentation of something that happened as recently as last year.
